Origin
and development
Beijing
Chinese-Foreign Translation & Information Service (CTIS)
was established in 1983. Over the years, CTIS
has increasingly focused its services on foreign invested companies,
especially Beijing offices of multinational corporations and
international agencies. And a significant portion of its services
involves legal and technical translations from other languages
into Chinese in the fields of clinical medicine, information
technology and machinery.
Resourceful
network
CTIS
is sponsored by the Translators* Association of China
(TAC) -- the only national-level academic society representing
the interests of translators and interpreters across China.
TAC was founded in 1982 with member associations in all of the
provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China (excluding
Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau). Its members include senior translators
and interpreters working at various industries and institutions,
totaling over 2,000 in Beijing alone.
CTIS also
enjoys the support of China International Publishing Group
(CIPG), the largest foreign language translation and publishing
agency in China and known as ※China*s Foreign Languages City§.
It is ranked one of the top three institutions with a strong
foreign language capacity and enjoys high reputation and authority
in China*s translation circles. CIPG has just celebrated its
fifties anniversary, boasting some 1,000 professional translators
in over 20 languages and nearly 100 senior national-level translators
and dozens of foreign language experts from Britain, the U.S.A.,
Japan, Germany, France, etc. There are also a modern network
center ( www.china.org.cn),
an electronic publishing center ( working in over 10 languages),
a dozen periodicals in foreign languages, more than ten Chinese
and foreign languages publishing houses and a large foreign
language printing house. Among its prestigious publications
are Beijing Review, China Today, China Pictorial and Chinese Translators Journal, to name just a few.
With
its offices right in the CIPG complex, CTIS enjoys the special
advantage of drawing upon the resources of TAC and CIPG networks
across the country.
Professional
team
CTIS
has 12 in-house staff and more than 200 registered freelance
translators and interpreters working in various technical fields,
as well as quite a number of foreign language experts who can
edit and finalize assignments in their native languages. The
translators have all been tested by CTIS and strictly abide
by professional ethics concerning confidentiality and quality
of their translations. At
present, CTIS offers translation and ancillary services in nearly
30 different languages.
Over
the years, CTIS has undertaken quite a number of large translation
projects covering more than 20 fields such as trade and finance,
business management, legal contracts, science and technology,
medicine, film and TV programs and others. With a dedication
to quality, CTIS now boasts nearly 30 contracted clients, many
of whom are large corporate enterprises and prestigious organizations
at home and abroad.
Language
as a bridge
With
China*s accession into WTO, China opens much wider to
the outside world, and the world is closer at reach to China.
Every enterprise, both in China and other countries, is facing
the same challenge: how to take full advantage of this opportunity
to explore new markets for their products or services. This
is where CTIS can help you. CTIS will not only help you conquer
language barriers, but also assist you in exploring new markets.
You will find
that: CTIS brings the world closer to you!

Partnership
Based
on the acknowledged fact that translators work best when translating
into their mother tongues, CTIS has established partnerships
with translation agencies in Hong Kong, Singapore and USA to
ensure accurate
localization for target markets.
This has benefited both CTIS, its partners and clients as the
translation quality has been markedly improved. CTIS welcomes
any enquiry concerning cooperation of this nature and is looking
forward to establishing more extensive partnerships with companies
both at home and abroad.
Quality
Assurance
CTIS* experience in translating diverse materials for
major clients has allowed it to build up a large team of translation
specialists in most languages and areas. CTIS can thus assign
the most suitable translator(s) for every project. CTIS has
also built up a comprehensive collection of glossaries and translation
tools for many subject areas and markets over the years.
Since a large proportion of CTIS clients
are long-term clients, CTIS maintains a strong contingent of
full-time translators, either on its payroll, or as contracted
freelance translators, translating almost exclusively for CTIS.
This allows CTIS to provide fast turn-round time for translation.
Part of CTIS*s translation work involves
the translation of press releases for distribution to media
throughout Asia. Since most of these contain time-sensitive
information, translation must be carried out with speed without
compromising quality. The establishment of glossary for each
project and the use of professional translation staff have allowed
CTIS to ensure that its clients* requirements for speed, accuracy
and consistent good writing are met.
To
guarantee the quality of translation products, CTIS has established
a rigorous checking system and clearly defined division of labor.
